Hi, my name is Ben and I am pleased to invite you to Seva House – a place of healing from the heart.

I started my journey in healing and therapy when I completed a Clinical Psychology degree MA (Clin Psyc),  an undergraduate degree in psychology BA (Psyc) and a Diploma in primary school teaching Dip (Primary); each from the University of Newcastle. I have been a fully registered psychologist since 2006 and have held positions of Tutor and Presenter with Southern Queensland University in their Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy program. I am a qualified Supervisor with AHPRA; actively supervising University students in the University of Newcastle Master of Clinical Psychology programme.  Alongside University training, I have a Diploma Clinical Hypnotherapy, and a Certificate in Gestalt Therapy and I am completing a Diploma in Process Oriented Psychology. As you can tell, I am passionate about learning; from my training, with my team and most importantly; the teachings from my clients.

My work is rooted in an interpersonal neurobiological framework, meaning that my focus is largely on the relationship between our brain and our behaviour. Many of the clients and organisations I work with seek to understand why behaviour occurs and a part of the privilege I hold is empowering others to share that understanding . I have particular interest in attachment, childhood development,  relationality and trauma informed principles – holding a strength-based approach and always holding my client’s in high, positive regard.  I am interested in working with children and adults who experience relational trauma, challenging behaviours as well as mood difficulties, relationship tension or difficulties with finding meaning or purpose. I  enjoy working with parents and families and have had a lot of experience working collaboratively with parents in my school counselling experience (in which I was a School Psychologist (Clinical) working with students, Teachers and our school community.

I have had extensive training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) as well as mindfulness extensions. I also use elements of  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as I strongly believe in incorporating a values-based approach to my practice. I have completed training in Somatic Experiencing, and I am currently exploring Synergetic Play Therapy, as well as Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy. I am also training to become an accredited EMDR practitioner with the EMDR Association of Australia and exploring it’s applications with children and adults who are traumatised or present with anxiety.

I currently work Monday to Thursday at Seva House and am also available for evening appointments by request.
